Welcome to Charlotte Estate Bed & Breakfast Nestled at the edge of the lush forest, overlooking the Caribbean sea and within walking distance of Roseau, Dominica’s vibrant capital, Charlotte Estate Bed & Breakfast is the ideal place to stay overnight for business, a few days more for a romantic getaway or even a week or two to experience Dominica’s unparalleled opportunities for outdoor adventures.
This beautiful homestead built in the 1920’s is at the center of an 18th century plantation named after Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III of England. The Main House contains three large bedrooms with private bathrooms, presents traditional West Indian architectural features such as deep veranda, high ceilings for ventilation, wooden hurricane shutters and a steep, pitched roof. Slightly uphill and behind the Main House, the Cottage, which offers two bedrooms also with private bathrooms, is a newer addition built on the foundations of an old chicken coop. The property is surrounded by mature fruit trees and splendid flower and vegetable garden where our guests can walk freely, relax in the many seating areas or simply linger among the plantation ruins that shelter a chicken coop and a plant nursery.
Other amenities include the Main House’s large and inviting Great Room furnished on one side with comfortable leather couches. On the other side, a conference/working area that can accommodate 6 to 8 people is discreetly secluded by luxuriant plant boxes. The Great Room is also where you will find the bar area, where you can relax and enjoy refreshing beverages throughout the day.
Every morning, a freshly cooked meal made with local ingredients and products from the estate garden is served on the veranda overlooking the Caribbean Sea. After breakfast, guests can opt to relax on the tranquil front porch, listen to the sounds of tropical nature in the various sitting areas of the vast garden, learn about the plants of the property at the nursery or grab their day-packs and venture out to explore Dominica. From hiking the famous Waitukubuli trail to exploring the island’s beautiful waterfalls and refreshing rivers, or discovering Dominica’s underwater world, visiting the capital’s bustling market or decompressing in a natural hot spring, we can organize all the details of our guests chosen activities.
Since the September 1st,2018, hosts Marcel & Céline, hosts, made sure that all guests enjoyed every part of their stay and fell like a part of Charlotte Estate family. Marcel & Céline moved in Charlotte Estate in August 2017, one month before Hurricane Maria, and since then work non-stop to transform this beautiful property into a great Bed & Breakfast with a magnificent garden.
Some comments from guests:
April 2019; Thanks so much for a wonderful couple of days staying at Charlotte Estate. We enjoyed every part of our stay very much. We loved the old house and how it has been restored to such a high and authentic standard. B. and E. loved staying in the beautifully presented cottage in the gardens. It’s so nice these days to strike a place that serves such a great breakfast with classy presentation that made us think of how life might have been back in the day.
Marcel, your cooking is great and we loved the various teas you made from local plants and especially learning about the health benefits that they offer. Thanks too Marcel for the interesting and informative ride up Roseau valley, especially everything you told us about the local Flora and Fauna.
Our stay in Roseau was a memorable and very enjoyable experience and we hope we have the opportunity to stay with you again one day.
March 2019: My wife and I stayed at the Charlotte Estate for 3 days. Celine and Marcel are welcoming and responsive. From the time we arrived they went beyond expectation to make sure we enjoyed our stay. The Estate is situated on a beautifully maintained property surrounded by trees and gardens, walking distance to downtown. Meals are served on the patio with views of the ocean. The rooms are new, spacious, and very clean. We arrived late in the afternoon on our first day.
We knew we wanted to hike, snorkel, eat local food, and see a volcano. Within 45 minutes Celine had us snorkeling in the ocean. Over the next two days, with Marcel as our guide, when went on amazing hikes in the rain forest, swim under waterfalls, hiked to the boiling lake, relaxed in natural hot baths, made new friends, and generally explored the beautiful island of Dominica. I would recommend the Charlotte Estate when visiting Dominica, we had an awesome trip. A sincere thanks to Marcel and Celine for making the trip so great, and for the extremely early ride to the airport on our final day! C.
November 2018: The Charlotte Estate is impeccable. It stood strong and intact when Hurricane Maria stuck and never lost its charm, absolutely an unforgettable experience staying there. Céline and Marcel are the best hosts one can ever expect: warm, caring, responsive, kind and more.
They are also amazing chef and hiking guide. Everyday Breakfast facing the ocean ensured a great starting point for the day, and the dinners there were 10 out of 10, much better than the best local restaurants that we tried. They also made the best egg sandwiches for hiking! I’ve travelled the world in over 70 countries and the experience with Charlotte was one of a kind, beyond my expectations.” W.
December 2018: I spent two very good weeks at Charlotte Estate, this house is really beautiful managed by Celine and Marcel who are my friends now, both made me feel like home, like a King. I am really grateful and I recommended to all who like have good moments, good rest and very tasty breakfasts 🙂 A.
