The Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association, on October 27th, held the first quarterly meeting for the financial year 2020-2021.
At the general meeting, the Executive Vice President Mr Kevin A Francis summarized the quarter’s activity as “encouraging and far more than in previous years”. “The association, in collaboration with other public and private sector partners, is working around the clock to ensure a safe relaunch of the industry. We have great forward momentum and the collaboration among sectors in encouraging.”
Since the border’s reopening, the Dominica Hotel and Tourism Association has been in constant contact with The Ministry of Tourism, Discover Dominica Authority and the Ministry of Health and new Health Initiatives on topics such as:
- Safe relaunch of tourism
- Participation in the Ministry of Tourism-led monitoring committee for the Safe in Nature Tourism Managed Experience
- The DHTA booking Line; where visitors can find certified accommodation
- Consultation, formulation and monitoring of entry protocols
While these topics represent an immediate priority, the association has also outlined a suite of initiatives and projects that will serve as support and visibility for the association and its members. Mr Hans Schilders, President of the Association, outlined the year’s activity for membership consideration and approval. The association’s work plan for the next 3 quarters include initiatives such as:
- The Tourism Enhancement Fund
- Business Exchange Platform
- Business continuity
- Financial management training
- Development of DHTA digital platform.
“The next financial year will see great strides in the association’s visibility and its representation of the members on crucial issues. We are confident that we will have the support from the public sector and other policymakers as we move toward the new normal. As we reopen our borders safely and slowly, the association urges members to be patient as we equip them with the tools necessary to create more business, better business, sustainable business.
