Strictly Local Christmas Village – Support Local, Buy Local, Gift Local!

The Dominica Export Import Agency (DEXIA) is for the second year collaborating with local artisans and producers to present Strictly Local Christmas Village (SLCV).  The “Buy Local” themed shopping bazaar was born in 2018 out of a need to create additional avenues for Dominica’s producers resuscitate their businesses in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.  The event, which is executed with the Dominica Arts and Craft Producers Association (DACPA), the Dominica Health and Wellness Association (DHWA), the Dominica Manufacturers Association (DMA) and the Waitukubuli Artist Association (WAA), aims to increase public awareness of local businesses and their products, as well as foster networking among members of the various associations.

Strictly Local Christmas Village is an excellent suite of quality products, at affordable prices, which are all locally-made. Organizers are encouraging patrons to buy local during the holiday season for their gifts and other needs.   Patrons can expect to find local literature, a wide array of local foods, juices, rums, wines and punches, bath and body products, jewellery, plants, paintings, carvings, and much more. Residents and visitors, alike are invited to come to the Roseau Market to support this initiative.  The Village opens daily from 10:00am to 6:00pm from December 18 to 20, 2019.

This year, some new activities will be featured in the Village.  On Wednesday December 18, SLCV will open with a Parade from 9:30am at the Botanic Gardens through the streets of Roseau and ending at the Roseau Market.  Over the three days, there will be Creative Workshops focused on upcycling items, such as creating pet beds from tyres, rugs from scraps of material, and cement vases using towels and cloth scraps.  As part of the closing day, Friday December 20, DEXIA has partnered with local designers and Ms. Ruth Augustine of Dominica’s Next Super Model Inc to put on a Dominican Fashion Showcase.  Models will hit the runway dressed in ‘Strictly Local’ outfits and accessories.  Activities for children such as face painting, and local entertainment will form part of the daily activities.
